“I am in the middle of a book about a near death experience (NDE) as told by a prominent neurosurgeon, Dr. Eben Alexander Eben” Jeff Zisselman shared with me when I asked what he is reading now.
“The most fascinating part to me is the similarities this story bares to the other accounts I have read by those who have also reported an NDE. Dr. Alexander who attended Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, NH, then received his A.B. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chemistry and followed that with an MD
from Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, NC and has been an Instructor in Surgery, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts has accolades in medicine and neurology and neurosurgery that span a decades long career. His previous belief was the belief shared by many other scientists, that consciousness is caused by brain activity and thus, when the brain activity ceases so does the human part of a being and further more so does the ability of that being to think or interpret. His experience during a 5 day coma changed all of that.
“I have read other such books and some from authors with equally impressive credentials and some from other with equally impressive stories the less impressive credentials. The thing that always resonates with me is that we are ultimately all one being, that we share pain, we share joy, we share experiences and we share this unity here and in the after-life. Mostly, it is why I never want another person to hurt or suffer. I have had others do things throughout my life that caused me pain, I never wished pain for them in return. I have seen enough suffering and for me to wish it on anyone, anyone at all is just not good for the universe, no matter how much someone else may try to hurt me or how much someone succeeds in that.
“I believe we are all one being, one living, breathing being and that we all impact each other. I never want someone to suffer. The other thing I glean from these stories is that few of the things we have anxiety over here on earth make much difference in the grand scheme of existence. Most matters are ultimately trivial ones and to give too much concern or worry over them does not solve them anyway. What life is about is love. What love is about is acceptance. What acceptance is about is love. So life IS love. That is all we really need to concern ourselves with. If we are kind and generous with both love and forgiveness or ourselves and others, we are creating a better world. I think many people do not see the spiritual side of me but the more I work on myself as a person, the more I know that this is all that matters.” I love my interviews with Jeff, he teaches and inspires me.
